I have good news for once. Yeah!
After being taken off ALL my medications and having a surgery to remove Lipomas (that were causing constant extreme pain), my health has draumatically improved.
I am no longer bedridden. Yippee!!!
I am going for WALKS. Yippee!!!
I just went to a week long technical conference, understood everything, made valuable contacts, and survived physically at an extremely impressive level for me. Yippee!!! Yippee!!! Yippee!!!
My hope is that my health will continue to improve. I plan on either starting my own business in May or maybe even jumping back into the regular work force. Kind of frightened of the second one due to my food allergies. However, at the conference I realized how much I missed being around NERDS!
Nothing more fun than Geeking Out!!! :)
Anyways, my paralysis and food allergies are under much better control. My sensory problems are still extreme, but I finally got some training on how to deal with them better. As I improve on my sensory problems, my overall health seems to keep improving.
My company took one look at the Long Term Disability paperwork I filled out and decided I will NOT be returning to work there. They will not allow me back in the building except to pick up my personal belongings.
On the plus side, I do qualify for Long Term Disability and that works as me being paid 60% of my salary for the rest of my life or until I can work to make an equivalent salary again. The total is more than I would earn on Social Security Disability, so I guess that is comforting.
I just really wanted to keep working. I am having a rough time of it trying to start my own business. I am still just trying to get through each day physically and that only leaves me about 10 minutes of energy a day right now to work on a business. :(
I have mostly gotten my back muscles back, but I am dealing with new problems and challenges. I will be having surgery on my back at the end of the month to remove some large Lipomas that are causing constant pain throughout my back.
On the positive side, in the beginning of December we finally got my handicap ramp installed. It has been so nice to not have to worry about falling down stairs to leave my house. Not like I am leaving it much, but still.
I spent December as a guinea pig for the Cleveland Clinic (similar to the Mayo Clinic). Haven't heard anything back from them.
I still plan to start a business, but I hope I become more physically able to do it soon.

Earlier this week I received forms from my company about our Long Term Disability Insurance.
I don't know how I feel about it and really don't know what to do.
I am supposed to go back to work in January. There is a small chance that won't be a disaster, but I plan on giving it my best. Definition of a disaster, I walk into the building, someone makes popcorn and I am carried out on a stretcher off to the ER experiencing Anaphalyctic Shock and a severe Periodic Paralysis attack. It has been so nice not to experience Anaphalyxis every other week. If I survive this combined attack again, I would likely be back to full bedrest for a while.
What I don't understand is even if I go back to work in January, should I fill out the forms?
I didn't even know I qualified for Long Term Disability insurance, since I have a known condition. If I do qualify what does it cover and pay out? How on earth do I find out this information? It has a section about Social Security and if I am going to apply for it.
Just all confused. If anyone has had to deal with Long Term Disability insurance and can give me some advice, I would really appreciate an e-mail.
